Nigeria striker Chinwendu Ihezuo, netted a brace to seal Pachuca’s comeback in a thrilling 3-2 win over FC Juárez in the Liga MX Femenil, www.aclsports.com reports.
Ihezuo, who started the game, struck twice in the first half, first in the 30th minute and again on the stroke of halftime, to ensure her side secured all three points. The goals were her third and fourth of the league season.
Juárez had taken the lead in the 10th minute through Dayana Martin, but Pachuca quickly responded as Ayooluwa Oke equalised five minutes later. Liliana Mercado restored the home side’s advantage in the 26th minute before Ihezuo’s double turned the contest in Pachuca’s favour.
Defender Osinachi Ohale also featured for Pachuca but was substituted just before half-time, with Andrea Pereira coming on. Ihezuo and Ohale’s side will be in action again on Monday, September 15.
In the United States, Nigeria midfielder Deborah Abiodun made her first start for Washington Spirit in their 2-0 win over Seattle Reign at Audi Field on Sunday. After two impressive appearances from the bench, one in the NWSL and another in the CONCACAF Champions Cup where she scored her first goal, the former Rivers Angels star played the full 90 minutes in a result that extended Spirit’s unbeaten league run to seven matches.
Trinity Rodman scored both goals for the home side, opening the scoring in the 33rd minute before adding her second in the 81st. Abiodun went close herself, forcing a fine save from Reign goalkeeper Claudia Dickey in the 30th minute, and later set up Rodman for another effort that was denied by Dickey’s fingertips.
Her compatriot Gift Monday started on the bench but entered the match in the 67th minute, nearly scoring with a header ten minutes later. Washington Spirit will travel next weekend to face league leaders Kansas City Current on Saturday, September 13.
