In Group A, host side ASEC Mimosas, opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over AS GNN from Niger. Habibou Ouédraogo was the star, scoring in the 21st and 90th minutes, while AS GNN’s lone goal came in the 31st minute. Ouédraogo’s performance earned her the Player of the Match award.
In Group B, defending Nigerian champions, Bayelsa Queens edged Ghana’s Police Ladies 2-1. Shakirat Moshood opened the scoring in the 12th minute, Emem Essien doubled the lead in the 62nd, and Mary Berko pulled one back for the Ghanaian side in the 68th minute. Moshood was named Player of the Match. Meanwhile, Sam Nelly of Benin secured a narrow 1-0 win over ASKO Kara from Togo, thanks to Romaine Gandonou’s 35th-minute strike, earning her the match’s top honor.
After the opening matches, ASEC Mimosas lead Group A with three points from their win over AS GNN, who remain on zero points. Burkina Faso’s USFA are yet to play. In Group B, Bayelsa Queens and Sam Nelly top the group with three points each, while Police Ladies and ASKO Kara are still seeking their first points of the tournament.
Matchday 2 continues on Tuesday, August 26, with AS GNN facing USFA in Group A. On Wednesday, Group B action sees Bayelsa Queens take on ASKO, while Police Ladies go up against Sam Nelly.
