Nigeria Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, scored twice to lead Galatasaray past Trabzonspor 3-0 in the Turkish Cup final played on Wednesday night, www.aclsports.com reports.

Osimhen, who moved the Turkey last summer, scored twice in the second half after Baris Yilmaz’s opener to help Okan Buruk’s side claim their first silverware of the season.

Galatasaray and Osimhen came into the final decided at Kaylon Stadyumu in Gaziantep as the huge favourites, and by the time Baris Alper Yilmaz grabbed the opening goal after just five minutes, there was no way back for Trabzonspor, who had Nigerian forward Anthony Nwakaeme feature for them.

Just a minute after the break, Osimhen produced some composure to bring down Yunus Akgun’s pass before smashing an unstoppable drive in the bottom right corner from the edge of the box to double his side’s lead.

Three minutes after the hour mark, Osimhen completed his brace from another Akgun’s pass, before beating his man and firing into the top left corner. In the 72nd minute, after another goalscoring outing, Osimhen was taken off for Dries Mertens. Gala went ahead to claim the trophy for the first time since 2020, and their 19th triumph overall.

Victor Osimhen breaks Mario Jardel's 24-year-old record, becoming the first foreign player in Galatasaray history to surpass 34 goals in a single season. 🇳🇬⚽️

In the Turkish Super Lig, Gala have an eight-point lead over second-placed Fenerbahce. A point in the next league outing against Kayserispor will see the Lions win the title and complete the domestic double.

Since arriving in Turkey, Osimhen has been key for the Istanbul side and a prominent figure in their chase for a domestic double this season. Osimhen has scored 35 times in all competitions, including the brace in the final – his best career goal return.
