Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, provided the assist for Paris Saint-Germain Féminine’s goal in their 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) on Thursday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Ajibade set up Sakina Karchaoui’s 16th-minute strike as PSG took an early lead, marking her second UWCL goal contribution after scoring against Real Madrid on Matchday 2.
Midfielder Jennifer Echegini also started for the French side, but Bayern Munich responded almost immediately, with Linda Dallmann equalising in the 17th minute before Momoko Tanikawa struck again in the 34th. Jovana Damnjanovic sealed a 3–1 victory in the 89th minute. Ajibade was substituted in the 55th minute due to injury, while Echegini left the field in the 85th. PSG currently sit bottom of the group, facing an uphill battle to avoid elimination from the UWCL.
Away in Belgium, AS Roma Femminile finally secured their first point in the competition with a 1-1 draw against OH Leuven. Nigerian defender Shukurat Oladipo started the match, while winger Rinsola Babajide made her first UWCL appearance after just returning from injury, coming on in the 76th minute. Roma took the lead through Evelyne Viens in the 18th minute, but OH Leuven fought back, converting a penalty from Jada Conijnenberg in the 71st minute to share the spoils.
Meanwhile, Benfica Feminino suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Paris FC on Wednesday, with Christy Ucheibe starting in defence. The Portuguese side were reduced to ten players in the 30th minute after Caroline Moller was sent off following her second yellow card in three minutes. French midfielder Maelle Garbino scored both goals for the hosts in the 43rd and 62nd minutes, leaving Benfica searching for answers in their UWCL campaign.
After Matchday 4, five teams have confirmed their progression from the league phase to the quarter-finals or knockout phase play-offs: Barcelona Femení, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, OL Lyonnes, and Wolfsburg.
