Four Nigerian clubs; three from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and one from the second tier Nigeria National League (NNL) are in a four-way battle over the signature of former El-Kanemi striker Sunday Adetunji.
Adetunji, 22, who is feared among NPFL teams’ defences after prolific spells at El-Kanemi, Shooting Stars and Abia Warriors is without a club after his move to Czech Republic last season was short-lived. A return to Lobi Stars also ended prematurely.
However, the former U23 star was reported to have joined his former side Abia Warriors last week and also Shooting Stars on Tuesday but www.aclsports.com can report than the striker is yet to agree a move to any club as he is caught up in the middle of a transfer rectangle.
Sources close to the player disclosed that NNL side Shooting Stars are hoping against hope to convince the much sought after striker to join them as they intend to earn promotion back to the top flight next season. The striker is loved in Ibadan and the club are reportedly willing to break their wage structure for him.
However, two NPFL teams in the middle belt region have also been looking at Adetunji with Champions League campaigners Plateau United facing a regional battle with Nasarawa United over his signature.
It is understood that Nasarawa United are offering him a sumptuous package to bring him to Lafia as the ambitious side look to make a return to continental football after five years but the lure of playing for Maikaba and in the Champions League seem tempting for Adetunji.
The striker is expected to decide his destination within the next 72 hours although there is every likelihood that more clubs will join in the chase for the lanky Ilesa, Osun state born forward.
