The lineup for the 2018/2019 UEFA Champions League, UCL, semifinal stage is complete after a dramatic VAR decision sent Tottenham through on away-goals rule at the Etihad on Wednesday.

Two English sides, Liverpool and Tottenham, join Barcelona and Ajax Amsterdam who booked their places in remarkable fashion on Tuesday in the last four.

The Reds had their African stars to thank as a brace from Mohamed Salah, and two further goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino earned Liverpool a 4-1 win against FC Porto in their second leg tie for an aggregate 6-1 victory.

At the Etihad, in a pulsating match between two English sides, it was the Video Assistant Referee, VAR, that stood out.

A blistering start to the game saw four goals scored in the opening 12 minutes, setting the tone for what would be a memorable European night.

Raheem Sterling superb opener was cancelled out by two excellent Heung-Min Son strikes before Bernardo Silva equalised for the home side to tie the game at 2-2, with Spurs leading 3-2 on aggregate.

In the second half, City added two more goals thanks to Sterling and Sergio Aguero to race into a 4-2 lead on the night and 4-3 in aggregate.

However, there was still more drama as Fernando Llorente pulled another goal back for Spurs to restore draw them level on aggregate, 4-4.

Just when Spurs thought they had done enough, Sterling sent Pep Guardiola and the home fans into a frenzy when he netted another goal in stoppage time to put City back in front, 5-4 on aggregate.

But their joy was cut short as the VAR ruled his effort out for offside, with Spurs holding on for a famous win on away-goals rule.

Mauricio Pochettino and his men will take on surprise package, Ajax in the semifinal, while Liverpool have a date with LaLiga giants, Barcelona.
