Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari says the team are ready to make Nigeria proud at the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, www.aclsports.com reports.
“The girls are happy and eager to represent their country and fly the green-white-green flag. For us, it is a call to duty. We want to play and enjoy doing what we know best, and we are ready to serve and make Nigeria proud,” Busari said.
The Flamingos, 2022 bronze medallists, will face defending champions DPR Korea, Poland and Puerto Rico in Group B. Nigeria will open their campaign against Poland on October 17, face Puerto Rico on October 20 and conclude the group stage against DPR Korea on October 23.
Busari said his team would respect every opponent while acknowledging the tougher challenge awaiting them at the World Cup.
“We are not looking down on any team, neither are they looking down on us. We want to approach every game with the same mentality, perspective and strength. This is the World Cup, where the competition will be tougher and tactics more advanced,” Busari said.
The coach also called for continued support from Nigerians and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“I think it’s no different from what they have been seeing. What we really expect from them is to still be behind us with prayers and support, and equally from the federation as well, because it’s not only our show. I think it is a show of the country,” Busari said.
He also addressed the attention surrounding captain Harmony Chidi’s interviews during the WAFU B tournament.
“She is a young player, and sometimes young players express their emotions in the heat of the moment. Those emotions can also be a sign of excitement and passion. Football is about passion and giving your heart to something you truly enjoy,” he said.
