Nigeria Golden Eaglets trained under difficult conditions on Tuesday ahead of their WAFU-B U17 Championship opener against Niger, reports www.aclsports.com.
The team had been scheduled to train at the USFA football pitch in Ouagadougou. However, on arrival at the venue, the Nigerian contingent discovered that USFA, the owners of the facility, had scheduled a friendly match for the same time the Eaglets were expected to begin their session.
The Golden Eaglets were then forced to use a nearby five-a-side pitch beside the main facility. Unfortunately, the pitch had a poor playing surface that was unsuitable for a team preparing for a competitive international tournament.
Despite the unpleasant situation, the team has promised to give their best in Wednesday’s clash with their counterparts from Niger Republic.
In the opening game of the three-team group, Niger and Cote d’Ivoire played out a 1-1 draw. Nigeria, five-time world champions in this category, can book their place in the knockout round of the qualifying tournament with a win on Wednesday.
The game has been scheduled to kick off by 5pm (Nigerian Time).
