Nigeria’s representatives in this season’s TotalEnergiesCAFCC Remo Stars and Kwara United posted good results in their preliminary round first leg games played on Sunday.

Playing at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Rabat, Remo Stars held hosts Royal Armed Forces ASFAR of Morocco to an intriguing 1-1 draw to leave the tie finely poised for the return leg in Nigeria next weekend.

Remo Stars went behind in the 27th minute when Diney Borges headed home a free kick from the left but the Sky Blue Stars who gave a good account of themselves on their first game in the continent levelled scores in the 55th minute through Adams Olamilekan who glanced home Seun Ogunribide’s corner kick.

Both teams will meet in the second leg at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo next Sunday to determine who goes through to face either Ashanti Golden Boys of Guinea or Nouakchott Kings of Mauritania.

Nigeria’s other flag bearers in the Confederation Cup, Kwara United recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over AS Douanes in their preliminary round first leg encounter decided at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Lagos on Sunday.

United got off to a dream start when former Abia Warriors winger Paul Samson gave them the lead after just five minutes when he poked home a rebound after Douanes goalkeeper Omar Halidou fumbled Wasiu Jimoh’s shot.

Jimoh then doubled Kwara’s lead in the 17th minute from the penalty spot after Samson’s shot was handled inside the box. The former Plateau United winger then got his brace when he finished home Issa Gata’s pass four minutes before the interval.

There were no further goals in the second half but United will take the healthy advantage to Niamey next weekend. Should they advance, a date with reigning champions RS Berkane awaits the Harmony Warriors.
