Head coach of Plateau United of Jos, Abdu Maikaba has told www.aclsports.com that their aim is to win well in their Total CAF Champions League (TotalCAFCL) preliminary round first leg clash against Simba SC of Tanzania.

Both teams go toe-to-toe in their first ever meeting at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday with the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side hoping to start their continental campaign on a positive note.

Maikaba says his team have good knowledge of their opponents and will hope to use that as advantage.

“We have an idea about our opponents. We got their videos and we have studied them,” said Maikaba to www.aclsports.com

“They (Simba) are a very good side but we are trying to formulate a strategy to handle them well to make sure we win well in Jos so that the second leg can be a mere formality.”

While retaining the core of players that represented the team last season, Plateau United have also brought in some notable players including goalkeeper Adamu Abubakar (Wikki Tourists), centre back Dennis Nya (Akwa United) and forwards Abdulrahman Bashir (Enyimba) and Sunday Adetunji (Lobi Stars).

Maikaba says keeping the core of the players he had last season will help the team better.

“Yes of course (we have a good crop of players to prosecute the assignment), I have the belief that continuity works for any team.

“Why we have the majority of players from last season is because we want to continue. If not, we would be struggling by now because we have rested for six months with many problems in and out.

“I believe it (continuity) will help us and the new players that have come into the team will adapt quickly as well,” added Maikaba.

Plateau United vs Simba Sports Club of Tanzania will kick off at 4pm Nigerian time on Sunday.
