Super Eagles of Nigeria maintained their 26th position in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings for March, released by the football governing body, www.aclsports.com reports.
In March, when the team played two matches in the international break, Eric Chelle’s men claimed a 2-1 win over Iran and a 2-2 draw against Jordan. Those results helped the Super Eagles, who now sit on 1585.09 points, open up a gap of over five points ahead of Australia in 27th place.
As a result, Nigeria also retains its position as the third-ranked nation in Africa under the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rankings.
Meanwhile, France moved to top spot, leapfrogging Spain and Argentina. European Champions Spain and World Champions Argentina are now second and third, respectively. England remain fourth in the table while Portugal climbed one spot to fifth. Brazil, Netherlands, Morocco – the highest-ranked African country, Belgium, and Germany, completing the top 10.
Senegal, who were recently stripped of the AFCON title, are 14th in the world and second in Africa, as Algeria (28th) and Egypt (29th) rounded up the top five countries in the rankings.
Nigeria will have a valuable opportunity to further improve its FIFA ranking during the June international break, when the Super Eagles take on Poland and Portugal in high-profile friendly matches.
