Rivers Angels record their first away win of the season in Osogbo…

Former Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership champions, Rivers Angels earned their first away win of the 2022/2023 season after a 1-2 success at Osun Babes on Wednesday.

The win over Osun Babes came on Match Day 10 of the current season and marks the start of the second stanza of the league after a break for the Nigerian elections.

Angels’ forward, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu opened scoring in the 3rd minute with a superb finish having intercepted the ball from an Osun Babes player outside the box.

Former league topscorer Oghenebrume Ikekhua then doubled the lead for Edwin Okon’s side just before halftime with a tap in off Adaobi Okah’s header.

Hosts Osun Babes pulled one back in the 58th minute when Olamide Bolaji converted from the penalty spot but it was not enough to stop the Jewel Of Rivers from running away with all points.

Wednesday’s game was witnessed by Osun state governor Senator Ademola Adeleke and his deputy Prince Kola Adewusi but their presence was not enough to spur the Omoluwabi Queens to victory.

Other results

Rivers Angels were not the only team to win away from home on Wednesday. Falconets set of 2022 star Esther Onyenezide scored in stoppage time to give FC Robo a shock 1-0 win away to Nasarawa Amazons in Keffi.

In Asaba, Mercy Omokwu was once again at her devastating best when she fired home a hattrick to propel Delta Queens to a 3-1 win over Heartland Queens at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.

In Lokoja, Isigwe Chukwuamaka scored an all-important winner twelve minutes from time as Confluence Queens got the better of Edo Queens 2-1.

Rebecca Ajimuda’s strike in first half stoppage time for Edo Queens had cancelled out Martha Peter’s 17th minute goal for the hosts before Chukwuamaka popped up to hand Whyte Ogbonda and his girls maximum points.
