Nigeria Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, scored twice to lead Trabzonspor to a 2-1 win over Konyaspor in the Turkish Cup final played on Friday night, www.aclsports.com reports.
Onuachu, who finished as joint top-scorer in the Turkish Super Lig this term, scored in either half to steer his side to their first cup triumph since 2020.
Galatasaray and Osimhen took the Turkish Cup from Onuachu and Trabzonspor last year, and when the lanky striker stunningly opened the scoring in the 18th, it meant a positive outcome could be on the cards for them. Trabzon took the lead into the break, but they were stunned after the restart.
Just five minutes after the break, Jackson Muleka pounced on a loose ball inside the box and beat the goalkeeper with a smart finish into the bottom left corner to make it 1-1 at the Corendon Airlines Park in Antalya. Six minutes later, Konyaspor could have taken the lead when Tim Jabol-Folcarelli committed a foul in the box. Only for Enis Bardhi to send his effort against the post from 12 yards.
It was all Konyaspor until Trabzonspor were awarded a spotkick of their own in the final quarter of the game after Marko Jevtovic handled the ball in the box. Onuachu stepped up to take the penalty and fired past the goalkeeper in the 79th minute. Despite a late push from Konyaspor, Trabzonspor held on for the win.
Apart from Onuachu, compatriots Chibuike Nwaiwu, who has been called up to the 2026 Unity Cup, and Anthony Nwakaeme, also ended the night on the winning side.
This marks Onuachu’s first piece of silverware with the club, adding to the league’s top scorer award he also claimed during a highly rewarding campaign for the former Southampton forward.
Across all competitions, the 31-year-old registered an impressive 26 goals and two assists in 36 appearances to cap off a remarkable season.
