The NWFL has sanctioned and fined Osun Babes FC ₦2.5 million after the club failed to present an approved alternative kit, resulting in their 2025/2026 Premiership fixture against FC Robo Queens in Lagos failing to kick off, www.aclsports.com reports.
Announced in a press release on Thursday, 19 February, the decision followed a review of the match officials’ reports from the scheduled fixture at Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan Stadium).
The match, set for Wednesday, 18 February 2026, failed to kick off after Osun Babes, the away team, were unable to provide an alternative kit displaying player names and numbers, despite a known colour clash with the home side’s registered strip. With the issue unresolved at kick-off, match officials awarded a walkover to FC Robo Queens in accordance with league rules.
In its review, the NWFL ruled that Osun Babes breached Article 10.3 of its Regulatory Framework, which requires clubs to switch to their second-choice kit in the event of a colour conflict. The club was also found to have violated Article 10.5, which stipulates that the visiting team must change colours when the home side appears in its officially registered first-choice kit. Furthermore, Article 14.7 was cited, noting that failing to fulfil a scheduled fixture without force majeure or valid justification constitutes a serious infringement.
As a result, Osun Babes were fined ₦1,000,000 for the kit violation and an additional ₦1,500,000 for failing to fulfil the fixture, bringing the total sanction to ₦2,500,000.
Commenting on the decision, NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi emphasised that the action reflects the league’s commitment to maintaining professional standards.
“The NWFL remains steadfast in enforcing compliance across all its competitions. Our regulations are unambiguous, and clubs are expected to meet their responsibilities. These actions are aimed at safeguarding the league’s integrity and credibility, not merely to punish,” she said.
The league reaffirmed its dedication to discipline, fair competition, and the smooth organisation of matches, urging all Premiership clubs to strictly comply with operational and regulatory requirements to avoid similar penalties in the future.
