
The University of Ibadan (UI), University of Benin (UNIBEN), and University of Uyo (UNIUYO) claimed gold medals in the Scrabble Doubles event at the 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games at the University of Jos (UNIJOS), www.aclsports.com reports.
In the men’s doubles, UNIBEN’s pair of Oboro Alfred and Oboro Alexious clinched gold after an impressive display, while Abasido Bassey and Prestige Archibong of UNIUYO took silver. The University of Ibadan’s Kingsley Enyi and Benjamin Onuh completed the podium with bronze.
In the women’s doubles, Funmilola Kelani and Barakat Malik delivered gold for the University of Ibadan (UI), maintaining the school’s dominance in Scrabble events. Ekajeh Talent and Ekajeh Excel of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) claimed silver, while the host team, Blessing Ola and Hauwa Abdullahi of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), delighted home fans with bronze.
Meanwhile, the NUGA 2025 Scientific Forum at the University of Jos brought together scholars, coaches, and sports administrators to explore innovative strategies for advancing university sports towards national and global excellence.
Men’s football matches continued at the University of Jos as teams vied for quarter-final qualification. KASU defeated UNN 2-0, while the University of Ibadan (UI) played out a goalless draw with UNICAL. EKSU edged DELSU 1-0, and FUTA recorded a 3-0 walkover against NDU. In other fixtures, Danfodiyo lost 0-1 to LASU, and FAU Makurdi fell 0-1 to the hosts, UNIJOS.
After the football matches, Group A has KASU and EKSU tied on four points, with DELSU and UNN on one point each. Group B is led by UNICAL and UI on four points each, while LASU has three points and DANFODIYO none. In Group C, UNIMAID tops with six points, followed by Aliko Dangote University and FUTA on three points each, with NDU yet to score. Group D sees FUTMINNA leading on six points, with UNIJOS and Taraba State University on three points each, and FAUM without points.
In the women’s football category, defending champions UNILAG Angels suffered a setback as they lost 0-2 to NAUA, who now top the group standings.
In women’s basketball, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria cruised to a 52–26 victory over Lagos State University (LASU), while Bayero University, Kano (BUK) outclassed IBB University 55–28. In another match, ABUAD fell 17–39 to NSUK.
The men’s basketball games were equally competitive, with MOUAU narrowly losing 22–28 to FUTA, and MAU Yola edging ABU Zaria 45–41 in a thrilling encounter. In another match, UNIBEN were defeated 32–52 by Nile University.
The judo events also kicked off at the University of Jos, adding another competitive dimension to the 27th NUGA Games as athletes tested their skills on the mat.
As the 27th NUGA Games progress, the University of Jos continues to buzz with excitement across multiple venues.
