Victory Pere Egbunu of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA) and Christabel Chioma Offor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) won gold in the men’s and women’s 400m finals at the 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games, at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) on Wednesday, www.aclsports.com reports.

Egbunu clocked 48.74s to finish ahead of UNIJOS’ Mark Dimas (49.56s) and UNIUYO’s Bassey Melvin Stanley (49.88s), while Offor dominated the women’s race in 57.24s. Success Owei of TASUED (57.95s) claimed silver, with UNICAL’s Uwana Udoh completing the podium in 58.49s.

In the women’s shot put final, Favour Imasuen of UNIBEN claimed the gold medal, continuing her university’s impressive track and field performance. She was closely followed by Blessing Emecheb of ABUAD, who took silver, while Blessing Sunday of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) secured the bronze medal.

ABU athletes maintained their strong showing in judo, with Maiyanga Daudu winning gold in the women’s -52kg category by defeating UNIUYO’s Peace Ekuta. Her teammate Favour Emmanuel also clinched gold in the -57kg division, while Faith Emmanuel of Federal University Dutsin-Ma took bronze in the same category.

The female football quarterfinals produced commanding results. UNILAG defeated Ambrose Ali University 3–0 to reach the semifinals, while UNIZIK edged MOAUA 1–0, remaining unbeaten and yet to concede a goal. FUOYE thrashed BUK 6–0, and UNIJOS overcame UNIOSUN 2–0, setting up semifinal clashes of UNIZIK vs UNILAG and UNIJOS vs FUOYE.

The men’s quarterfinals delivered thrilling finishes. FUTMINNA edged UI 2–1 with a last-minute goal, Taraba State University routed LASU 4–1, KASU beat FUTA 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 draw, and EKSU overcame UNIMAID 3–1 on penalties following a 0–0 stalemate. The semifinals will see EKSU face KASU and Taraba State University take on FUTMINNA.

Men’s handball matches were tightly contested, with UDUS defeating BUK 18–14, TSU edging LASU 15–13, EKSU overcoming UNIJOS 16–14, UNIMAID narrowly beating JOSTUM 16–15, and UDUS also defeating FUTMINNA 23–18. In women’s handball, UNIBEN dominated BOUESI 20–7, UNIJOS edged ADSU 5–3, and JOSTUM overcame UNIJOS 10–7.

In swimming, Delta State University, Abraka, and Benson Idahosa University are leading the medal table, each claiming five gold medals. Delta also boasts five silver medals, highlighting their consistency across events.
