Nigeria’s weightlifter Sarah Ovayioza Matthew won gold in the women’s 77kg Snatch, lifting 116kg, as Nigeria sits sixth on the medal table at the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, www.aclsports.com reports.

Matthew delivered an outstanding performance to edge Egypt’s Sara Samir Elsayed Mohamed Ahmed, who managed 115kg, while Iran’s Seyedeh Zahra Hosseini took bronze in the Snatch.

However, the Egyptian star dominated the Clean & Jerk segment, lifting 145kg to secure gold, with Matthew finishing second after a best lift of 129kg, earning silver. Kazakhstan’s Ayanat Zhumagali claimed bronze in the overall standings.

At the end of the event, Sara Samir Ahmed took the overall gold, with Matthew settling for silver, and Zhumagali finishing with bronze.

Matthew’s latest medals bring Nigeria’s tally to six gold, five silver, and three bronze after Day 9 of competition, keeping the country among the top six nations at the Riyadh Games.
