Lobi Stars secured a comfortable 2-0 home win over Katsina United in one of the 2023/24 NPFL match day 23 games played on Sunday to return to the summit of the log, www.aclsports.com reports.

Lobi, who lost to Sunshine Stars last time out, hosted the in-form Chanji Boys at the Lafia City Stadium. Second-half goals from John Victor and  Alao Danbani secured all three points for the Pride of Benue to return to the top of the log after Remo’s win on Saturday. Remo Stars defeated Bayelsa United 1-0 in the late evening kick-off at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne to go top pending today’s set of matches.

In Sunday’s other game, Plateau United defeated 2023 Federation Cup champions Bendel Insurance 2-0 in Jos to keep up the heat on Lobi Stars at the top of the log. Alex Enejo opened the scoring for the hosts before Barnabas Daniel wrapped up the win with a goal of his own seven minutes after the hour mark. With the win, the Peace Boys moved up to second with 41 points, just a point adrift of leaders Lobi Stars.

In Awka, Sunshine Stars added to the misery of Christian Obi and Heartland as they forced the bottom club to a 1-1 draw. Promise Awosanmi opened the scoring for the Akure Gunners in the first minute before the hosts found their equalizer just five minutes later through Onyekachi Okafor. The result left Heartland bottom and six points adrift of safety, while Kennedy Boboye’s Sunshine remain three points clear of the drop zone.

Meanwhile, Rangers extended their winning streak to five games after a comfortable 2-0 win over Niger Tornadoes at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. Skipper Chidiebere Nwobodo and Godwin Obaje scored in the space of three first-half minutes to help the Flying Antelopes claim their second successive win on the road. The win took Rangers into third spot, while Tornadoes stay in the drop zone in 17th.
