Former Akwa United coach Abdu Maikaba returned to his old stomping ground in Uyo to increase the woes of his former side Akwa United when his Plateau United held them to a 2-2 draw. Kano Pillars also started life under reinstated boss Ibrahim Musa with an obedient loss at Gombe United.

Akwa were within touching distance of their first win of the season courtesy of two goals by prized asset Mfon Udoh but after Bernard Ovoke had levelled the scores at 1-1, Benjamin Turba equalised for Maikaba’s men in stoppage time.

Usman Musa and Babangida Ibrahim scored in each half to give Gombe United a resounding 2-0 win over Kano Pillars who have now gone three games without a win since their opening day success against Heartland.

There was plenty of late dramas in the centres as Katsina United and Heartland scored in stoppage time to record slim wins over Wikki Tourists and Go Round respectively.

Sheriff Bashir scored for Katsina who earlier had a penalty from Joshua Agboola saved by Wikki goalkeeper Pius Ibrahim. Agboola turned provider for Bashir’s stoppage time winner in Katsina.

Bashir’s former club Abia Warriors also needed a late penalty, converted by Emeka Isaac to defeat a stubborn Kada City side.

In Okigwe, former Go Round forward Okon Otop stabbed his former side in the fourth minute of stoppage time when his header handed Heartland a 1-0 success. The game had looked poised to end in a stalemate but Otop had the final say when he headed Samuel Nnoshiri’s cross home.

MFM FC and FC Ifeanyiubah made hay while the sun shine as they scored first half winners against their opponents. Kabir Adeniji scored for the second home game in a row as MFM beat Rangers 1-0 while Chinonso Udeh’s first half goal lifted Ifeanyiubah over Yobe Desert Stars in Nnewi.

Four other games apart from the Akwa/Plateau game also ended in draws on Wednesday.

Ten-man Lobi Stars drew 0-0 at Enyimba while Wasiu Jimoh’s volley earned Rivers United a 1-1 draw against Sunshine Stars in Akure.

Insurance were held 0-0 by Kwara United at UNIBEN while Remo Stars also held Niger Tornadoes to a 0-0 scoreline in Minna.
