Plateau United midfield trojan, Chinemerem Ugwueze, wants the right mentality from his side as they prepare to face Shooting Stars of Ibadan in their next Nigeria Premier Football League game on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.

Following his side’s narrow defeat in Ilorin on Thursday evening, the former Rangers midfielder admitted it is not going to be an easy match against Shooting Stars. Still, he reiterated that the side is positive about getting a result from the game.

“We will be facing another tough opponent[Shooting Stars] playing away from home,” said Ugwueze to www.aclsports.com in an exclusive chat.

“I want to believe that Shooting Stars is one of the best teams within the south-western region. It is not going to be an easy game. I think it is important that we wear the right mentality to approach the game, and also execute the game. I know for sure that we are positive, and we hope to get something from there. The point we were supposed to get in Kwara, this time around, we will try to get it here.”

Ugwueze also lamented the defeat to Kwara United in Ilorin, but he is hopeful his side can build on the performance going forward.

“It was indeed a tough loss for us[Plateau United]. Despite the hard effort and top performance, I strongly believe that with the performance we put up in the game, we were supposed to get something from the game. Football happened, but we have to build on the performance, hold onto that,” Ugwueze added.

Although he ended on the losing side, the NPFL winner was a standout performer in the game in Ilorin, and he says he does not want to dwell on that performance because it did not help his side avoid defeat.

“I don’t want to focus on my personal performance, considering it was not enough to help my side secure at least a point or a massive three points. I would not want to rely on the performance or relish in it, because at the end of the day, nothing came out of it. Well, it is something to build on. From here, I hope I can put up more effort to get my team to get something in the next game,” the Midfielder concluded.

Plateau United, who have picked up six points from their first six games of the season, will be guests of Shooting Stars at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Sunday. The game has been scheduled to kick off by 4pm.
