Sporting Lagos thumped Remo Stars 4-1 in one of the 2023/24 NPFL match day 24 games played on Sunday to claim bragging rights in the South-West derby, www.aclsports.com reports.

The Tech boys, who drew goalless with Doma United last time, hosted the in-form Sky Blue Stars, who have not lost in the derby since 2019, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. It was a dream start for the hosts when former Remo winger Godwin Odibo raced through on goal only for Ahmed Akinyele to bring him down in the box. Junior Lokosa, who was with the Ikenne side last season, dispatched the penalty to hand the noisy Lagosians the lead.

Just before the half-hour mark, Sporting made it two after Paschal Durugbor profited from a string of errors from Fabian Nworie and Remo goalkeeper Kayode Bankole. An own-goal from Aliu Salawudeen five minutes before the break offered some hope to Daniel Ogunmodede’s Remo side. However, a goal from Philip Odubia just after the break restored Sporting’s two-goal lead before Isaac Annor finished a lovely team move to round off the scoring. It was the biggest defeat of the season for Remo Stars who will now turn attention to Enyimba on Wednesday.

In Ibadan, Shooting Stars put three past 2021 champions Akwa United to move into the top half of the log. Ehibe Victor, Christian Pyagbara and Lawal Abdullahi scored in the comfortable win, as the Oluyole Warriors extended their unbeaten run to four games. Chijioke Mbaoma, who grabbed his 12th goal of the campaign, helped Enyimba beat Doma United in Aba on Sunday.

Fabian Omaka’s penalty goal for Abia Warriors was cancelled out late on by John Victor as Lobi Stars rescued a point in Umuahia to stay top of the log. In Enugu, it finished goalless between Rangers and Kwara United. Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes won 1-0 at Bayelsa United via Ikechukwu Nwani’s second-half goal.

Earlier in the match day, Katsina United and Heartland shared the spoils in Katsina, while Sunshine Stars beat Plateau United 3-1. Ibrahim Yusuf and Sodiq Tunde (brace) scored for Sunshine, while Albert Hillary scored for Plateau United. In the clash of former champions, Kano Pillars were held to a 1-1 draw by Rivers United in Port-Harcourt on Saturday.

Matchday 25 be played on Wednesday with games across all the centres with Remo Stars hosting Enyimba and Sporting Lagos travelling to Kaduna to face Niger Tornadoes.
