Plateau United of Jos remain winless in the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season following a shock 2-1 home loss to Katsina United, as Bayelsa United moved to the summit of the log with another home win on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Following the opening week, Plateau United, who lost to Wikki Tourists, came into the game with determination to get back to winning ways in front of their home support at the New Jos Stadium. However, things failed to go accordingly, as they slumped to a home loss.
The Changi Boys, who are known for not winning on the road, raced to a two-goal lead through Auwal Sadiq and Uche Collins, but Monday Gideon’s late goal was not enough for the home side to push them for a point. The Tin Boys are now without a win in their first two games of the new season under the new management.
In Yenagoa, Bayelsa United backed up their win at Shooting Stars with another 2-0 home win over newly promoted Barau FC. Second-half goals from Wisdom Magbisa 59′ (PEN), and Ofem Nneoyi 74′ sealed a comfortable win for Monday Odigie’s side. The win propelled them to the summit of the log after two rounds of matches.
It was a series of 1-0 home wins for Nasarawa United, Enyimba, and Rivers United over Abia Warriors, Niger Tornadoes, and Kwara United, respectively. New boy Joseph Abiodun was the match-winner for the Aba giants, as Ugochukwu Leonard’s 10th-minute strike was the decider in Lafia, and Friday Ubong, who appeared in all NPFL games for Rivers United last season, scored the only goal in Port Harcourt.
Meanwhile, Warri Wolves also backed up their match-day one win over Katsina United with a 2-0 win over 2024 champions Rangers in Ozoro. Godwin Oham curled one home in first-half stoppage time, before Prince Ebhohon added the second 13 minutes from time.
It was a stalemate between Kano Pillars and Wikki Tourists in front of a packed Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. Luis Dadong finished off an exciting team move to put the visitors ahead, but Sai Masu Gida responded just before the break through Mustapha Umar. In the day’s final game. Ikorodu City were held to a goalless draw by Elkanemi Warriors in Lagos.
Earlier on Saturday, Shooting Stars picked their first point of the season after a 1-1 draw against Bendel Insurance in Benin. Meanwhile, the match day will come to an end with a clash between Kun Khalifat and champions Remo Stars at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba on Monday.
