Nigeria Premier Football League champions, Remo Stars, returned to winning ways on the domestic scene following a comeback 2-1 win over Elkanemi Warriors on Monday, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Sky Blue Stars have been winless since beating Wikki Tourists in early October, but after going behind to Jonas Emmanuel’s goal, the Ikenne side scored two late goals through Victor Mbaoma and Michael Ibe to secure a first win in four NPFL games.
Before the match-day 12 encounter at the MKO Sports Arena in Abeokuta, Remo Stars had been in the relegation zone, and they needed a win to move up on the log, which they went on to achieve. After a goalless first half, an Elkanemi Warriors’ counter-attack ended with Jonas Emmanuel heading the ball into the net for a shock lead.
Remo Stars upped the ante, and they were rewarded for their efforts in the final seven minutes of the encounter. Victor Mbaoma was brought down in the box, and he picked himself up to convert in the 88th minute. In the fifth minute of additional time, Michael Ibe pounced on a loose ball around the box to fire home the winner.
In the other games also decided on Monday, Saka Gafar’s goal for Plateau United condemned Kennedy Boboye’s Bendel Insurance to a first loss under his management. Having drawn the three previous games, the Benin Arsenal remain winless under the former League winner. Maclyn Biokpo scored a late goal to help Rivers United beat Kun Khalifat 1-0 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
Meanwhile, Remo Stars will host Rangers in a rescheduled match day nine game on Thursday, while action returns in the league for match day 13 at the weekend.
