NPFL: First wins for Ikorodu City and Plateau United

Ikorodu City and Plateau United claimed their first wins of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season following victories over Barau FC and Remo Stars on Sunday, respectively.

The Oga Boys, who were high-flyers last term, laboured to a 2-0 win to claim their first win of the season after four matches. Substitutes Joseph Arumala and Taiwo Cole grabbed the goals for the Lagos side, as they also kept their third clean sheet of the season.

Similarly, Plateau United, winless before this match day’s action, stunned defending champions Remo Stars 2-0 at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday. Tarabina Biweribo and substitute Mafeng Pam with the goals in the second half against the Ikenne side, who also had defender Stanley Joseph sent-off late on.

New boys, Kun Khalifat, also earned their maiden NPFL win as they beat Elkanemi Warriors 3-1 in Aba. Ebuka Nwokorie scored on either side of Onuorah Onyedika’s goal for the Pride of Imo. Meanwhile, Ebuka Okoro scored Elkanemi Warriors’ only goal of the contest. In Kano, the returning Ahmed Musa scored the game’s only goal as Kano Pillars beat Rangers 1-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Rivers United, Nasarawa United, and Abia Warriors claimed 1-0 wins over Shooting Stars, Wikki Tourists, and Katsina United, respectively. The match winners were: Friday Ubong (Rivers United), Garba Mohammed (Nasarawa United), and Somiari Alalibo (Abia Warriors).

Also on Sunday, Warri Wolves and Kwara United settled for a goalless draw in Ozoro. Meanwhile, earlier on Saturday, Israel Emmanuel scored a stoppage-time winner to lead Bendel Insurance to a 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes in Benin.

Enyimba were the biggest winners of the match day as they beat Bayelsa United 2-0 in Yenagoa. The former champions scored twice in the final 15 minutes of the game through Chidera Michael and Kalu Nweke to snatch maximum points on the road. By virtue of the win, Enyimba moved to the top of the log with superior goal difference, but only one point separates the top six.
