Defending champions Enyimba beat MFM FC 1-0 at the Agege Township Stadium on Wednesday to climb out of the 2019/20 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) relegation zone while Rangers drew 1-1 with Lobi Stars in Makurdi.

Enyimba and Rangers are Nigeria’s representatives in the 2019/20 Total CAF Confederation Cup and both teams began offsetting their backlog of outstanding matches on Wednesday with their Match Day 6 arrears.

After a dominating performance in the first half, Enyimba eventually got on the score sheet in the 72nd minute when Abdulrahman Bashir rounded off a flowing team move to score.

The win lifted Enyimba, coached by Fatai Osho out of the red zone with five more games in hand.

In Makurdi, Rangers extended their unbeaten run to eight games in all competitions by frustrating hosts Lobi Stars at the Aper Aku Stadium.

New signing Israel Abia headed home Isaac Loute’s cross in the 43rd minute to give Rangers the lead on his debut but Samuel Mathias levelled for Gbenga Ogunbote’s side in first half stoppage time.

Salisu Yusuf’s Rangers remain in the relegation zone though but with five more games in hand.

Rangers travel to Akwa United on Sunday while Enyimba host Abia Warriors in the Abia Derby.
