Bendel Insurance capitalized on a big opportunity to beat Katsina United 1-0 in their Nigeria Premier Football League match on Monday, www.aclsports.com reports.

Katsina United, who adopted the Yekini Rashidi Mainbowl in Ilorin as their home ground, struggled to get going, leaving Kennedy Boboye’s men the chance to push for all three points, and they got it.

Some Katsina United players staged a protest on Monday after over the non-payment of their salaries for the past five months.

The players reportedly prevented the team bus from moving to the stadium for their NPFL Matchday 16 clash against Bendel Insurance at Yekini Rashidi…

A few hours before the match, some Katsina United players protested unpaid wages, which was reflected in the selection of Azeez Mohammed, as he left the likes of Azeez Falolu, Uche Collins, and Friday Christopher on the bench.

It was all Bendel Insurance in the opening 15 minutes, but they failed to capitalize on it. Insurance striker Kayode Oke missed two glorious chances, then Chinedu Nwosu also could not beat the goalkeeper from range after a wonderful throughball from Anthony Nnamdi. In addition, Henry Onyia’s long throw-ins were causing issues for the Katsina United backline, but they managed to survive the half.

After the break, Katsina United head coach Azeez Mohammed introduced the likes of Falolu, Collins, and Christopher, but they still could not get a hold of the game. Kennedy Boboye also made changes to his squad with the introduction of Elmer Arunta for the wasteful Kayode Oke. Just seven minutes after his introduction, the former Sunshine Stars forward fired the ball home from Emmanuel Dung’s assist.

The game went flat from that moment on, and Bendel Insurance could have added more, but they ended the day with their first win on the road this season. With the victory, Insurance moved out of the relegation zone to 15th spot with 19 points.

In Lafia, Nasarawa United defeated Shooting Stars 1-0 to return to the summit of the 2025/26 season at the end of match day 16 action. Moyi Hassan with the game’s only goal in the 65th minute.
