Nigerian players across Europe were once again in the spotlight at the weekend, with Joy Omewa scoring again and Esther Okoronkwo providing the winning assist as AFC Toronto claimed the Supporters’ Shield, www.aclsports.com reports.

In Denmark, forward Joy Omewa continued her hot streak in front of goal, scoring and providing an assist in Fortuna Hjørring’s 2–0 victory over Odense Q in the Danish Women’s League. The 22-year-old sealed the win in extra time, scoring in her fourth consecutive match to take her season tally in the league to five.

In Canada, Esther Okoronkwo continued her fine form, providing the decisive assist in AFC Toronto’s 1–0 win against Ottawa Rapid FC. The Super Falcons forward set up Kaylee Hunter in the 33rd minute for the only goal of the match. The result confirmed Toronto as winners of the inaugural Northern Super League Supporters’ Shield, awarded to the team with the best regular-season record.

In England, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie impressed once more as Brighton edged Everton 1–0. The Nigerian shot-stopper kept her second clean sheet in four matches, pulling off two diving saves and confidently claiming crosses to preserve the win. Toni Payne came on for Everton in the 76th minute and tried to create chances, but her most dangerous delivery was gathered safely by Nnadozie.

Elsewhere in France, Rasheedat Ajibade and Jennifer Echegini both started for PSG Féminine in a difficult 6–1 defeat away to Lyon. Echegini was withdrawn on the hour mark while Ajibade lasted until the 80th minute. Former PSG player Korbin Shrader, who joined Lyon in July, was the star of the show with a hat trick against her old club.

In Saudi Arabia, Ashleigh Plumptre, who had two assists last week, featured again for Al Ittihad but could not prevent her side from falling 4–1 to Al Nassr. Fellow Nigerian Francisca Ordega came on in the 75th minute but could not change the outcome.

Meanwhile, in Spain’s Liga F, Levante’s Nigerians endured a frustrating day. Paulina Ali and Kalu Chinyere were unused substitutes in their 1–0 loss to Eibar, while Ziporrah Agama came on in the second half but made little impact. The result leaves Levante stuck at the bottom of the table.
