It was a good Saturday for Nigerian players abroad, as Alex Iwobi and Terem Moffi emerged as some of the goal scorers on the day, www.aclsports.com reports.
In the Premier League, Alex Iwobi recovered from a swollen ankle to deliver a man-of-the-match performance as Fulham beat Brentford 3-1 in the London derby at Craven Cottage. The former Arsenal midfielder grabbed a goal and an assist in the game, as well as creating two chances. Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey was also solid at the back, as he finished the game with 96% pass accuracy, five clearances, and two interceptions. Frank Onyeka was an unused substitute in the game.
In the French Ligue 1, Terem Moffi grabbed his second goal of the season in Nice’s 4-1 loss at Brest. The striker halved the deficit at the half-hour mark with a smart finish after a lovely pass from Hicham Boudaoui. He was later taken off just after the hour mark. Moffi has two goals from five Ligue 1 appearances this season. Meanwhile, Chidozie Awaziem played the entire duration of the match as Nantes forced Rennes to a 2-2 draw at Stade de la Beaujoire.
Meanwhile, Hellas Verona’s Gift Orban, on loan from German side Hoffenheim, scored the equalizer against Juventus for his first goal in Italian football. His performances in that contest also earned him the man-of-the-match award. In Turkey, Paul Onuachu’s goal helped Trabzonspor secure a 1-1 draw against Gaziantep.
