Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers scored once again to lead a number of Nigerians who were impressive in their side’s achievement at the weekend.

In the Premier League, Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey impressed for the London side as they helped their side claim their first win of the campaign. In the Championship, Josh Maja was the match-winner for West Brom.

Here is a summary of how the weekend went for all of them.

Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey (Fulham): The Super Eagles duo were in action for Fulham in their 2-1 win over Wilfred Ndidi’s Leicester City. Iwobi’s goal decided the contest at the Craven Cottage

Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina (Nottingham Forest): Aina returned to the starting line up for the Reds as they defeated Joe Aribo’s Southampton 1-0 away from home. Additionally, Awoniyi came on as a second-half substitute but could not get a goal for himself.

Frank Onyeka (Brentford): The midfielder was in action for the Bees who lost 2-0 to Liverpool at Anfield.

Josh Maja and Semi Ajayi (West Brom): Maja and Semi featured from start to finish as the Baggies defeated Stoke City 2-1 away from home to continue their fine start to the season. Maja scored the winning goal in the 31st minute to take his season tally to four goals from three games.

Cyriel Dessers (Rangers): Dessers grabbed a brace in Rangers’ 6-0 bashing of Ross County. The Super Eagles forward has now scored five goals from six games in all competition.

ITALY

Maduka Okoye (Udinese): The Nigerian goalkeeper was in goal for Udinese who claimed their first win of the season. Okoye stood tall in goal to help his side beat Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s Lazio at home.

On the subject of goalkeepers playing at a whole new level, Maduka Okoye is not only living up to his showings in the latter half of 2023/24, but surpassing them handily. Another huge performance today to help 10-man Udinese to victory over Lazio.

Samuel Chukwueze (AC Milan): The Super Eagles winger was a late sub in Milan’s 2-1 defeat to Parma on Saturday.

Victor Osimhen (Napoli): Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was not listed by Antonio Conte as Napoli defeated Bologna 3-0.

FRANCE

Akor Adams (Montpellier): The 24-year-old was in action for Montpellier as they were thumped 6-0 by PSG on Friday.

TURKEY

Ibrahim Olawoyin (Rizespor): The mercurial midfielder played 90 minutes for Rizespor in his side’s 5-0 home defeat to Fenerbahce.

SPAIN

Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ejuke (Sevilla): The Super Eagles pair made their debut for the club but that could not help them avoid a 2-1 home defeat to Villarrral.

Chrisantus Uche (Getafe): Uche played all 90 minutes in his side’s goalless draw with Rayo Vallecano.
