The NFF Presidential elections candidate Dr Christian Emeruwa is insistent that it is the Presidency of Nigeria’s football governing body or nothing else.

Dr Emeruwa, it has been rumoured has been offered the secretary-general office by some candidates but the current head of CAF Security Committee has quashed that suggestion emphatically.

“People assume that I am interested in being the Secretary-General, I have been approached by two candidates for me to be their SG but I told them point-blank that I am in for the Presidency or nothing else.”

Emeruwa says that “having served three past Secretary-Generals of the NFF I know the frustrations of being in that office. The SG can have fantastic ideas but those ideas can be killed by the Executive Committee as they have the final say. I am not going too expose myself to that.

Dr Emeruwa with Sports Minister Sunday Dare in Abuja

Emeruwa  was once the head of the Integrity Unit of the NFF and has made integrity at the heart of his campaign. He has met and continues to meet with stakeholders of the sport across the country. He has also met with current Sports Minister, Mr Sunday Dare at the latter’s Abuja office.

The thrust of his message to the Stakeholders include, “there is so much more that can accrue to everyone in the Nigeria football ecosystem from the success of the leagues in the country through to availability and disbursement of grants from CAF and FIFA into the right areas in the country.”

The point is that before now, the office of the NFF President has been used for the advancement of personal ambitions. Chris Emeruwa believes that “The President of the NFF should be working for the greatness of Nigeria football inside the country and this improvement will be from the grassroots through to the states and then to the national levels.”

“Football in Nigeria was passionate, properly run and something many looked forward to, I intend to bring those times back” is his message.
