Liverpool have notified the Guinea football federation that midfielder Naby Keita will not be available for the AFCON ’21 qualifying match between Namibia and the Syli National on March 28.

Namibia is among the Covid-19 risky destinations whose visitors to the UK must observe seven-day confinement, which the Premier League reigning champions do not wish for their player.

However, Keita will be able to represent his national team against already qualified Mali in Conakry on March 24 in the penultimate round of the qualifiers.

“We received a letter from Liverpool. As Namibia is in the coronavirus red zone, Liverpool does not want Naby Keita to go there. It’s a delicate situation for us,” explained the coach of Syli National, Didier Six.

Guinea are placed second in Group A with 8 points and are in need of one victory in both encounters to seal qualification.
