Super Falcons forward, Uchenna Kanu, scored a hat-trick in Cruz Azul Femenil’s 6–4 win over Atlas Femenil in the Liga MX Femenil on Saturday, www.aclsports.com reports.
The 28-year-old returned to the starting XI for the first time since the round 4 clash against Monterrey, having featured off the bench in the club’s previous matches, and opened her goal account for Cruz Azul after leaving Racing Louisville FC.
Kanu netted her first in the 27th minute with a composed finish inside the box after calmly controlling a cross and evading her marker. She doubled her tally in the 55th minute with a curling effort past the goalkeeper before completing her hat-trick six minutes later, tapping home from close range to cap a clinical display.
Cruz Azul had taken an early lead through Ana Lucía Martínez in the 7th minute, with María Montaño adding a second in the 23rd. Atlas responded strongly as Renata Huerta struck in the 33rd and 65th minutes, while Sanjuana Muñoz scored in the 35th and Brenda Cerén converted a penalty in the 70th minute to reduce the deficit to 5–4.
Aerial Chavarin sealed the victory for Cruz Azul with a sixth goal in the 73rd minute, ensuring a thrilling win. Kanu was named Player of the Match.
The result marked Cruz Azul’s first win after two defeats and a draw in their previous three matches. It was their fourth victory of the season, moving them up to eighth place on 15 points. They will face Necaxa on Thursday, 12 March, as they aim to continue their climb up the standings.
