Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun recalls how he felt at the final whistle of the Nigeria Vs Ghana Qatar 2022 play-off match in Abuja. “I was heartbroken. I just laid there on the turf and cried my whole heart out. I could not stop, I did not want to stop.”

The Glasgow Rangers defender was speaking in the aclsports.com’s #YourSportsMemo Podcast. “In terms of preparations, the preparations for those two matches Vs Ghana were probably the best in my time with the Super Eagles”, the big defender says. This will be music to the ears of NFF President, Amaju Pinnick who was very vocal about how much the Federation had done in the lead up to these matches.

It was not enough.

What went wrong? “I think we were unable to react to the in-game changes Ghana made during the match in Abuja” Balogun says.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion defender also spoke about Rangers’ run to the final in the UEFA Europa League, his brief spell in the Premier League and what the future might hold
