The LASU women’s football team, LASU Queens, has been disqualified from the 2025 FISU University World Cup Football in Dalian, China, www.aclsports.com reports.

The Federation of African University Sports (FASU) champions, who were set to represent Africa at the tournament, were denied accreditation to compete after failing to meet FISU’s minimum squad requirements. Regulations stipulate that each team must register at least 16 players and five officials. However, LASU Queens arrived in China with only 13 players and not up to five officials.

Despite participating in the opening ceremony, the team was disqualified before the tournament’s matches officially kicked off on Wednesday, September 17.

LASU Queens had been drawn in Group A alongside Shanghai University of Sport (China), the University of the Extreme South of Santa Catarina (Brazil), and the University of Valencia (Spain). Shanghai University of Sport has already advanced to the semi-finals after winning their opening two matches.

Even though they cannot participate in the official tournament, the team is still in China and took part in an alternative match organized by the hosts, securing a 3–0 victory yesterday.

The main event’s final is scheduled for September 28, 2025. The team’s return to Nigeria remains uncertain, with more details to be shared when confirmed.
