More than 30 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) stars who began their professional career in Lagos will on Sunday October 21, come together for a novelty match to entertain their fans.

Tagged “Lagos NPFL stars,” the match will feature star players from all over the country as the players “come together to entertain and give back to the community,” Enugu Rangers player, Abu Azeez said.

“We thought about it that Lagos fans haven’t seen enough of their heroes. They only see them when MFM FC plays and that is not good enough. So we want to bring back all the players to play so their fans can watch them again.”

With players like Junior Lokosa of Kano Pillars, Dare Ojo of Enyimba, Sikiru Alimi of Sunshine Stars, Sikiru Olatubosun of MFM FC etc all set to feature, Azeez shares his thoughts on why majority of Lagos NPFL stars have had to find greener pastures elsewhere rather than remain in Lagos.

“There hasn’t been a premier league team in Lagos for years till MFM and Ikorodu United came along with the latter going down while MFM is actually a church team.

“We need to re-invest in Lagos and promote grassroot football so professionals can come back home to spice upcoming Lagos players,” he added.

NPFL assist king Kabir Balogun and Plateau United striker, Tosin Omoyele are also expected to feature alongside Olufemi Thomas and Godwin Aguda both of Enugu Rangers amongst others.

The match will be played at the Agege Stadium with kick-off set for 8am on Sunday morning.
