Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated Comoros 2–0 in their second-round qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics on Friday, www.aclsports.com reports.

Goals from Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu in the second half at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, gave the 10-time African champions a two-goal advantage ahead of the return fixture.

In his first game as interim coach of the Super Falcons, Augustine Eguavoen named Chiamaka Nnadozie in goal, with Michelle Alozie, Christy Ucheibe, Shukurat Oladipo and Glory Ogbonna in defence. Toni Payne, Joy Igbokwe and Jennifer Echegini started in midfield, while Uchenna Kanu, Gift Monday and captain Rasheedat Ajibade led the attack. Igbokwe made her senior debut.

The Super Falcons dominated the first half and created several chances but failed to take them, with Comoros goalkeeper Aicha Said busier than Chiamaka Nnadozie as the teams went into the break goalless.

Nigeria eventually broke the deadlock three minutes after the restart when Gift Monday headed a cross into Alozie’s path, allowing the defender to finish with her right foot past Said in the 48th minute.

The goal opened up the game, with Comoros pushing forward in search of an equaliser while the Super Falcons looked to extend their lead. Nigeria continued to threaten and doubled their advantage in the 60th minute when Kanu evaded her marker before connecting with Jennifer Echegini’s corner.

Augustine Eguavoen introduced Janet Akekoromowei and Suliat Abideen for Toni Payne and Gift Monday, respectively, with both making their senior debuts, while Folashade Ijamilusi replaced Kanu late on.

Nigeria pushed for more goals but held on to secure their first win since beating Egypt 6–2 in their final group match at the WAFCON 2026, ending a run of consecutive defeats.

The Super Falcons will host Comoros in the return fixture at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, on Tuesday, 13 October, as they look to secure a place in the next round of the Olympic qualifiers.
