Ikenna Ndubisi has expressed delight in winning Enugu state’s only medal at the just concluded 2023 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta state.

Ndubisi clinched a silver medal in the 52kg men’s wrestling event following his loss to Perelade Eguda o Delta in the final.

Enugu won 0 gold, 1 silver and 0 bronze at the 7th National Youth Games.

Ikenna Ndubisi told www.aclsports.com that his plan was to win a gold medal but got stopped by Perelade Eguda of Delta in the final.

The student of Akain Ibiam Memorial Seminary School said David Robinson introduced him to wrestling after seeing his hidden abilities in the athletics event.

He said, “I feel excited but the bout did not go as planned in the final; I know next time will be better.

“After the National Youth Games, I would like to push forward in my sporting career because I know the Youth Games is the stepping stone. I wish to see myself representing Nigeria on the International scene.”

“My godfather, David Robinson introduced me to wrestling; my first sport was athletics before he saw the passion of wrestling in me. Wrestling has been running in my blood since my childhood and I got the opportunity presented to me”, he told www.aclsports.com

The SS1 wrestler urged his classmates and friends to put their efforts and time into their various sporting careers.

Enugu State presented a total number of 59 athletes and 19 officials in nine sports. They include; Athletics, Boxing, Judo, football (male), handball (male) Para-Athletics, Taekwondo, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
