Debutant Ibrahim Gbadamosi scored the match winner as his 49th minute strike propelled Qizilqum PFK to a 1-0 win over Buxoro in the Uzbekistan Super League on Tuesday.
Gbadamosi, 22, only on Saturday completed a move to the Uzbek side from second division side FC Oqtepa and made an instant impact in his first appearance for Qizilqum on Tuesday evening.
Qizilqum manager Tachmurad Agamuradov threw his new acquisition (Gbadamosi) straight into the starting line up and the striker rewarded the faith of the manager by converting from the penalty spot four minutes after the re-start.
Gbadamosi was a menace to the Buxoro defence throughout the 83 minutes he spent on the pitch at the Progress Stadium in Zarafshan on Tuesday.
Before Tuesday’s win, Qizilqum had failed to win any of their previous nine matches in the league since the 2020 season started on the 1st of March.
The team’s poor form had left them bottom of the 14-team Super League table after nine matches but Gbadamosi’s winner in Tuesday’s game has now lifted them off the foot of the table.
The striker who was voted man of the match by the local press was replaced by Salim Mustafajev with seven minutes left on the clock.
Up next for Gbadamosi and his new side is a tricky trip to mid-table side Metallurg Bekabad on Saturday. A surprise win in the game is also capable of lifting Qizilqum out of the red zone of the league table.
