Handball: Yusuf, Okwor, 18 others for AYG camp

Confluence boys players, Farouk Yusuf and Obinna Okwor are amongst the 20 players invited for the African Youth Games in Algiers, Algeria.

The 3rd Youth All Africa Games comes up from 18th to 28th July, 2018 in Algiers.

Yusuf won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) as well as the Best position number two while Obinna Okwor was adjudged the best promising player at the 4th Sam Ocheho invitational handball championships in Lagos.

Other players include: captain of the team Ibrahim Dikko, Sanni Bature, Salami Akeem, Shola Adelakun, Ebinatei Ekpodio, Salim Salim, Annas Yashau, Mohammed Abbas, Dele Kelvin, Mainasara Sabrina, Abdulazeez Abdulrahman, Abubakar Ahmed, Gambo Yazid, Daniel Bello, Saheed Shittu, Aliyu Muazu, Ismail Yahaya and Umar Farouk.

The players are camped at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, and to be tutored by an experienced coach Emeka Nnamani and ably assisted by Coach Musa Oji.

Nnamani led the under 18 team to a victorious outing at the IHF Trophy Challenge Cup in Niamey, Niger Republic.

According to the Secretary General of the Handball Federation of Nigeria, Alhaji Maigidansama Haruna, the bulk of the players selected are from the winning team of the IHF trophy in Niamey, Niger Republic; while others were selected from the recently concluded Sam Ocheho Invitational Handball Championship.

He told ACLSports.com that the team is expected to be in camp until the 17th of July 2018 before final departure to Algiers for the tournament proper.
Nigeria male team are in the same group alongside Angola, Morocco, and Uganda in group A, while Egypt, Algeria, RD Congo and Kenya will slug it out in group B.

Nigeria will not be participating in the female category that consists of Congo, Egypt, Burkina Faso and Uganda in group A while Cameroon, Kenya, Cape verde and host Algeria are placed in group B of the female event.
