Safety Shooters player, Ada Okey has said that her side were unlucky to have lost the Prudent Energy Handball title to Plateau Peacocks.

Safety Babes came into the second phase as leaders but were stunned by Plateau Peacocks after the end of the league.

“We were unlucky, said Okey. The best team lost, the team that tried to win lost, but that’s sports for you”.

The former Abia Valliants player said, “I am not feeling too bad because everyone at the league came to win. In the first phase, we led the female category but at the second round we were unlucky, drawing two matches and losing to Plateau Peacocks. We were not that eager to hold on to our position and this is why we lost the league to the Jos based team”.

She said, “I and my team mates must sit up, fight for what is ours. Winning is everyone’s birthright but as you can see, we finished second place behind Plateau Peacocks. I urge them that next time we will fight back to secure the league trophy.

Okey told www.aclsports.com her desire to wear the colours of Nigeria once again.

“After the league, I have nothing to do for now unless I am opportune to get an invite to the senior national team. I played for Nigeria in the U17, U20 teams and presently I am part of the senior team”.

She said, “Handball is fun but the actual thing is that we don’t have anything to gain in terms of finances. The game is lovely and it is a very big family that we interact. I love playing handball but we are crippled by financial issues”.

Before joining Safety Babes of Abuja, Ada Okey played for Abia Valliants of Umuahia, Owena Queens of Akure and Defender Babes of Abuja.
