Two time Commonwealth champion, Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg) won gold at the just concluded German Grand Prix event in Dormagen.

Eight times African champion, Blessing Oborududu (68kg) settled for bronze medal while two times commonwealth champion, Aminat Adeniyi (62kg) narrowly lost out on the medal table.

The head coach of the female national team, Purity Akuh told www.aclsports.com that the result shows Nigeria is making progress ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

He said Nigeria has been included amongst those who participated and won medals at the Grand Prix.

Akuh said, “The two medals is a plus not only to the Nigeria Wrestling Federation but the country as a whole. The gold and bronze medal means we are making progress and working on a positive part to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

On how Odunayo Adekuoroye has been able to maintain her form, Akuh said, “She trains with me, couple of strong boys and young heavier girls in Akure”.

He said the girls will not disappoint at the Dan Kolov-Nikola Petrov ranking series tournament in Bulgaria.

“By the grace of God, the girls will better their performances at the Open in Bulgaria” Akuh said.
