Nigeria U19 team, Junior D’Tigress, are officially out of the title race at the 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Brno, Czech Republic. They now move into the classification round for 9th–12th place, beginning on Friday, July 18, www.aclsports.com reports.
Nigeria made a statement in Group B with a historic 93–88 victory over China, their first-ever win in U19 Women’s World Cup history. Nora Ezike led the charge with 25 points and was supported by strong performances from Idubamo Beggi, Tobenna Nweke, and Jessica Ajayi. The win marked a milestone moment for Nigerian women’s basketball.
The team’s next two games brought tougher competition, as they fell to Canada (42–113) and Portugal (61–79). While the losses exposed some inexperience, they also served as valuable lessons for the young side. Nigeria finished third in Group B and went on to face Hungary in the Round of 16, where they were defeated 50–77.
Now, the Junior D’Tigress turn their attention to a classification clash against Argentina on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 15:00 WAT (16:00 local time, GMT+2). Argentina, winless in Group D after three losses, are also hoping to end the tournament on a high. A Nigerian win would set up a final game against either Brazil or Korea in the 9–12 bracket.
This game is more than a ranking formality, it’s an opportunity for the team to grow, build momentum, and cap off their impressive debut with another win on the world stage.
From their stunning opening victory over China to facing some of the tournament’s toughest sides, the Junior D’Tigress have already made their mark. As they prepare to face Argentina, they have one more chance to show the grit and potential that has defined their campaign in Brno.
