Former Sokoto Rima player, Farouk Yusuf has joined Mountada Derb Sultan Handball Club of Morrocco from De Defenders of Abuja.

Yusuf popularly known as Tobi came into limelight at the U12 National handball Championships held in 2013 and 2014 held at Isanlu and Idah respectively both in Kogi state.

He was part of the Sokoto handball team that placed first at the 2017 National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara state.

The Sokoto born handball player played for De Defenders of Abuja at the 2018 Prudent Energy Handball League in Lagos and was voted the most valuable player of the tournament.

Yusuf came first with Nigeria U18 handball team at the 2018 IHF Africa Challenge Trophy in Kigali, Rwanda last August. He was also part of the cadet team that came third at the 2018 African Youth Games in Algeria.

The president of Handball Federation of Nigeria, Samuel Ocheho confirmed Yusuf’s signing to www.aclsports.com on Wednesday.

He said the move will help develop him and which will in turn affect the national team positively.

Ocheho said Yusuf is expected to continue his schooling whilst playing handball.

He said, “Yusuf has joins Mountada Derb Sultan Handball club of Morrocco on an amateur contract as he is still a minor from De Defenders Handball Club of Abuja after passing all necessary trials. He has been voted most Valuable players in two senior competitions held this year in Nigeria which is a testimony of his emergence in the handball scene in Nigeria”.

“My congratulations to Farouk Yusuf because it will help develop him, which will in turn develop our national team of the future. We need more of this from our home based players. Competition from both foreign and local based players will help develop the game in Nigeria” Ocheho said.
