Nicholas Tetteh told www.aclsports.com that the Ghana men’s volleyball team is the undisputed king of West Africa. Tetteh confidently stated that it would be extremely difficult for Ghana to lose to Nigeria in any international competition.
Reflecting on the intense rivalry between the two nations, he noted that this competition brings the teams closer together.
He said, “I don’t know why, but I’ll say this rivalry has existed for ages; it’s not just in volleyball but across all sports and everything related to Ghana and Nigeria. In the end, it brings both countries together.
“For some time now, Ghana has been dominant when it comes to matches between us and Nigeria. Both teams have strong sides, and you know how it feels when you lose to Nigeria or vice versa.
“When it comes to volleyball, we Ghanaians believe any country can beat us, but against Nigeria, we will never allow them to win”.
The Ghana Air Force player expressed his pride in Ghana’s performance at the 2024 African Military Games, where the team secured third place.
The Libero said, “I feel so much joy finishing in third place finish at the African Military Games, even though we could have done better. The team is satisfied with our position, and we’re hopeful for further improvement in future podium finishes.”
He also celebrated Ghana’s historic bronze medal at the 13th African Games, calling it a significant milestone for the country.
Tetteh said, “That was a huge moment for Ghana volleyball. Winning bronze at the African Games is history for the country. Being part of the top three teams in Africa isn’t easy, and I feel so proud to have been part of that team that made history.”
Reflecting on his personal growth in 2024, Tetteh said, “2024 has been a great success for me. I’ve improved in many ways, though my main goal is still to play professionally, something I am actively working towards.
“In 2024, I had a great year with my club, Ghana Air Force VC. We won the Greater Accra League, the Knockout, and the Champions of Champions.”
The promising volleyball player hailed his elder brother, Richard Amanor for introducing him to volleyball at an early stage.
He said, “I was introduced to volleyball by my elder brother, Richard Amanor, who has been an exceptional player and a role model to me. When I was in primary school, I played football but one day, my brother asked me a question that made me rethink my future.
“He said how many footballers from our town have you seen traveling abroad to play? But look at me, I’ve been scouted by security agencies to play for their teams’.
After reflecting on his brother’s advice, Tetteh made the switch from football to volleyball.
“I thought about it, and I decided to switch to volleyball. My brother is currently playing for a club in Kuwait. He has been the best outside hitter in West Africa for years. So, my decision to become a volleyball player was really based on his advice and example”.
