Nigeria’s Falconets lose U-20 WAFU B final to Ghana…

Nigeria’s Falconets lost the U-20 WAFU B final 3-1 to Ghana on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The Nigerian girls came into the final with a 100% win record scoring 19 goals and conceding none, but it was the hosts, Ghana who halted them in their tracks in the final to emerge champions of the maiden edition of the U-20 WAFU B tournament.

As always, the Falconets started the brighter side, piling pressure on the Black Princesses’ defence but the hosts weathered the storm and eventually settled in without the Falconets breaching their defence.

The Black Princesses then began playing their own game and eventually got the breakthrough from a spot kick following a dangerous tackle on a Ghanaian player in the Nigerian defence.

Ghana broke the deadlock in the 39th minute through Stella Nyamekye and tried to hold on for a 1-0 win but Flourish Sabastine levelled the score with four minutes of regulation time left to play.

After extra time, the score remained the same and a penalty shootout was needed to crown the winners.

The Black Princesses of Ghana won 3-1 on penalties as Nigeria’s Falconets lose the U-20 WAFU B final with Ghana winning the maiden edition of the tournament on home soil.
