Former Nigeria Super Eagles goalkeeper Olorunkele Ojo is set to join Shooting Stars ahead of the 2025/26 NPFL season, www.aclsports.com has exclusively gathered.
Ojo, 29, spent a few months at Ethiopian club Wolwalo Adigrat University after the mutual termination of his contract at Al-Merrikh of Sudan earlier in the year, but he is now set to return to the Nigerian topflight.
A top source in the city of Ibadan, who also has close ties to the player, has now informed ACLSports that the former Sunshine Stars goalkeeper has agreed to complete a move to the Oluyole Warriors. The source also claimed that Ojo has given his word to the new management of Shooting Stars about his coming to the club.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Ojo should be in Ibadan in the coming days to complete his move to the Oluyole Warriors, who now have Nurudeen Aweroro as head coach. He will compete for the number one shirt with CHAN-bound Mustapha Lawal, who excelled between the sticks for the Ibadan side last season.
Ojo, who was part of the Super Eagles squad that finished second at the last Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, is highly regarded in the league after stints at Sunshine Stars, Akwa United, and, more recently, Enyimba, where he helped them win the 2023 NPFL title.
Following last season’s 8th-place finish in the NPFL, new-look Shooting Stars have been active in the transfer market as they hope to finally clinch a continental ticket in the 2025/26 season.
