Former captain of the senior men’s national team, D’Tigers, Olumide Oyedeji has urged the D’Tigress to trust in their abilities as they continue to prepare for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Spain later this month.

Oyedeji told ACLSports the team needs to stay dedicated and focused like they did at the Afrobasket Championship in Mali last year.

“The girls worked so hard to be where they are today, I give it to them. I want the girls to stay dedicated, motivated. Anytime they feel like quitting they should remember how they started the journey. The reason is to get to the World Championship for themselves, family and for the country.

“They should stay dedicated and determined, impossible is nothing.”

Nigeria who are ranked 34 in the world, will play against Australia ranked number 4, Argentina ranked 15 and Turkey ranked 7 in Group B.

The Peak ambassador expressed confidence in the team’s abilities despite being grouped against top ranked teams in the world.

“We are in a tough group I don’t think Australia is unbeatable they are going to have five players on the floor, we also going to have five players too, same with Turkey though they are ranked above us, we have to go pound for pound. Impossible is nothing,” Oyedeji emphasized

The former NBA star said he will be out there in Spain to support the team.

“I’ll be on my Nigerian jersey may be I’ll be at the game to support them because I have something to do with FIBA. I will always support them because this is Nigeria basketball and I wish them all the best. Eyes on the prize!!!
