DR Congo have named Christian Nsengi Biembe as interim coach following the resignation of Florent Ibenge who led the Leopards to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The central African nation’s football officials were eyeing a move for Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr, who led the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the Afcon, with the FA president Constant Omari establishing contacts with the German.

However, initials talks proved unpromising, according to reports, prompting the body to go for Biembe, who was DR Congo national team’s technical director.

Trained in Belgium, the new stop-gap coach holds a UEFA Pro licence and formerly handled local giants AS Vita, who are currently managed by his predecessor, Ibenge.

DR Congo played four matches at the 2019 AFCON, winning one, losing three and crashing out in the Round of 16.
