Comoros Football Federation says plans are underway to file a complaint against Cameroon national team to be disqualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in accordance with CAF rules and regulations after the central African nation was stripped of the right to host the tournament due to poor preparations.

Both teams are in Group B of the qualifiers, with the Indomitable Lions second placed on 8 points behind already qualified Morocco, while Comoros sit third with 5 points but could replace Cameroon if they are eventually barred from participating in the finals.

“We have not abandoned plans to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Our lawyers are putting the necessary documents together. It is very clear that when a nation is stripped of hosting right its team automatically loses its place,” said Comoros FA president Said Ali Said Athouman.

Cameroon will host Comoros during the qualifiers final matchday in March. A win or a draw would be enough for the Lions to book their place at the finals.

However, if CAS’ eventual verdict goes in favour of Comoros it could trigger an unprecedented situation.

The 2019 AFCON is scheduled for June / July, with the host nation expected to be revealed this month.
