Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, has disclosed that her goal is to help Nigeria’s Women’s National Team win the 2025 WAFCON in Morocco later this year, www.aclsports.com reports.
The goalkeeper, who was part of the team as a backup to Tochukwu Oluehi when they last won it in 2018, aims to play a huge part in the forthcoming tournament, as the Falcons hope to win on the continent for the first time in seven years.
“To me, AFCON holds the same weight as the World Cup,” said Nnadozie to CAF Media in an interview. “The atmosphere, the stakes, the intensity, it’s all there. I remember the 2022 edition in Morocco: packed stadiums, incredible supporters. You feel lifted by an entire continent. And personally, I’ve never been the starting goalkeeper when we’ve won a title. This time, I want to lift that trophy from the pitch to play a real part in the victory.”
In Group B, Nigeria have been drawn alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana in a relatively easy group, but the Paris FC goalkeeper thinks it is a tricky group based on the results at the last WAFCON.
“People might think it’s a manageable group, but the reality is very different. Women’s football has made huge strides in recent years. Every team is improving, working hard, and investing in development. We saw it in the last AFCON, where many of the favourites were shaken. No one can be underestimated anymore.
“This group is tricky, and we have to treat it with the seriousness it deserves. Qualification won’t be handed to us we’ll need to earn it through hard work and discipline,” the former Rivers Angels goalkeeper concluded.
The 24-year-old has been named Africa’s Best Goalkeeper two years in a row, and she has established herself as one of the standout figures in women’s football on the continent. Recently, she led her club, Paris FC, to their first-ever Coupe de France title, saving two spot-kicks in the final against PSG.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons, whose last competitive fixture was a 2-1 defeat to France in November 2024, will regroup for friendlies against Cameroon in Ikenne and Abeokuta on May 30 and June 3 as part of their preparations for the WAFCON happening in Morocco in July.
